POSTOPERATIVE TREATMENT CARE
-
Immediately after treatment,
there will be redness and swelling at the treatment site, which may last up to 2
hours or longer. The redness may last up to 5 days. The treated area will feel
like sunburn for a few hours after treatment. The application of ice during the
first few hours after treatment will reduce the discomfort and swelling that you
may experience. You must ice the area for 15 minutes at a time until you no
longer feel body heat coming from the area.
-
Antibiotic ointment, like
Neosporin, may be used for 3-4 days but usually is not necessary. Darker
pigmented people may have more discomfort than lighter skin people and may
require aloe vera or antibiotic ointment.
-
Avoid sun exposure to
reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation. Use sunscreen (SPF 25 or
greater) at all times throughout the course of treatment.
-
Avoid activities that will cause
the skin of treated area to become warm or hot. This includes sports, exercise,
hot showers, hot tubs, etc…
-
Women should avoid wearing panty hose after
treating the bikini or legs until redness
and swelling subsides.
-
Avoid picking or scratching the treated
skin. Do not use any other hair removal
treatment products or similar treatments
(waxing, plucking or tweezing) that will
disturb the hair follicle on the treatment
area for 4-6 weeks after the laser treatment
is performed. Shaving or depilatories may be
used.
-
Please contact the staff about any questions
or concerns you may have after the
treatment.
-
Skin will push the treated hairs out of the
follicle (shedding) and this looks like new
hair growth. This is not new
hair growth. You can clean and remove the
hair by washing or wiping the area with a
wet cloth or Loofa sponge, but do not force
the hairs out.
-
After the Axillae or underarms are treated,
use a powder, instead of deodorant, for 24
hours after the treatment to reduce skin
irritation.
-
Baths should be avoided until redness and
swelling goes away. Instead take showers and
treat the skin gently, as if you had a
sunburn. Avoid water that is hot and will
irritate the treated area.
